Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in P17 as his team followed a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed corner before the final bend on to the main straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
